Check whether a higher spin is suitable
Read the garment care instructions and the washer’s program guidance. A higher setting is not automatically suitable for every fabric or load. Record the selected cycle, spin option and load size; the highest advertised revolutions per minute may not be available on the program you use.
Do not force an unbalanced load through repeated spin attempts. If unusual vibration or faults appear, follow the machine’s troubleshooting guidance or report the issue to the responsible maintenance service.
Calculate the net difference
Assume an extra spin consumes 0.04 kWh and reduces a comparable dryer session from 2.00 to 1.70 kWh. The dryer saves 0.30 kWh, but the net saving is 0.30 − 0.04 = 0.26 kWh. At an illustrative $0.18/kWh, that is about 4.7 cents per load.
For 16 loads, the modeled monthly saving is about $0.75. These numbers illustrate a method; they are not a promised effect of increasing spin speed on your machine.
Compare loads that started similarly
Use a similar amount and type of laundry in each comparison. Towels and light shirts should not be treated as interchangeable test loads. Keep the dryer’s target dryness and program the same, and include any additional cycle needed for damp items. If you line-dry instead, the main benefit may be shorter drying time rather than lower measured dryer electricity.
Look beyond a shorter timer
A dryer that finishes sooner does not necessarily save electricity in direct proportion to minutes because its heater or compressor may cycle. Prefer total kWh for complete sessions where appropriate measurement is available. Keep a small record across several comparable loads. A repeatable improvement is more useful than a dramatic result from one unusually small load, and it helps you choose a setting you can use routinely.
